July 05 - Arrival in Suriname

July 05, 2005

All is fine here in Suriname. I haven't had the chance really to email until now, but I wanted to let you know I arrived just fine and am doing well. We have started training and start language tomorrow.

It is extraordinarily beautiful here....lush green, vibrant flowers, banana trees, coconut trees, frogs all over the place at night, raining about 4 times per day. Quite different from Uzbekistan....beautiful in a much different way.

There are 22 volunteers. We met in Miami, went through staging, danced, flew to Suriname, are playing sports, danced, going through classes. It's all great, though keeping me busy, of course. So far, I love it.

The first thing I saw when I got my passport is that it is valid for 27 months. Woohoo!!! They want me. :) Very happy to see that.

Not a whole lot has happened since I arrived. I will let you know more as time passes. A couple of similar plants I have seen here are Bouganvilla (sp-?)and Bird of Paradise, both also in Arizona, though perhaps better grown here. It is just magical.
